And we are back!! #roundtwo
After our successful attempt to break a Guinness World Record in 20,23, raising over 22K for the Kids Village Charity, and scoring over 28745 goals over a 24 hour period, the team at Ashby Netball Club have decided to go bigger and better! This time it is a netball playing marathon, with players playing continuous netball for (hopefully) 75 hours straight!! Longer than the current Record for a single game of netball by 3 hours!
Why would they do that; I hear you ask? Carla Garey made a pledge to fundraise after seeing her inspirational little girl Evelyn, fight for her life after being born with a rare congenital condition causing a defect of her RET gene and one of the resulting factors was a condition called Hirschsprung's disease, and the amazing players at Ashby Netball stood up and wanted to help. Evelyn is the inspiration behind this story, but brought to life by an incredible group of women who have the courage and conviction to do something truly special.
This idea which started off as a bit of a pipe dream very quickly came to life, and that is only thanks to the phenomenal support of the women involved. There were offers of staying up overnight, relentless training to practice and build up stamina, everyone giving up their own time and incredible community support. The commitment and dedication was fantastic to see, and built a real camaraderie within the team and this shone through massively. In our minds we have done it once, and we learned a lot and we raised £22K and broke a world record, now we want to challenge ourselves again?
A few words from Carla...
"There is always a reason behind any idea I come up with and this one is extra special one for me, based on the journey I had with my precious daughter Evelyn. Evelyn was born on the 15th of February 2021 and within 50 hours of her birth, she was fighting for her little life in neonatal intensive care where she spent the first 4 weeks of her life. We were surrounded by terrified parents whose babies had to endure the most heart-breaking circumstances to help their brave little babies survive, and we were quickly aware of what an awful situation is it for any parent to face difficulties following births.
Evelyn has a rare condition called Hirschsprung disease, along with multiple other problems to contend with, she had a 9 hour major operation to remove 2/3 of her bowel at just 3 months old. Once again, we were in hospital and living day by day, praying our daughter would survive and come home to her loving family and the first 18 months of Evelyns young life felt relentless. We have met so many families during our time in hospitals with Evelyn and can see how difficult it is for all families to manage childhood illness. We spend so much time apart from the rest of our family during this period and our other 4 children, which coincided with the peek of Covid lockdowns. I spend time on children's wards in hospital, seeing first hand just how challenging and traumatic life with a poorly child can be.
So now we want to help, and use some of the motivation I see in my daughter every single day through all her struggles and all the uncertainly of what's to come in her life and the life of so many other children. I've seen bravery beyond measure and I've seen courage I can barely comprehend and if i can do anything at all to make life just that little bit brighter by raising money for the Kids Village Charity then there's not stopping me! `
The charity we have selected to raise money for is the Kids Village, a UK based charity for children with a critical illness or who have spent significant time in hospital and the work they do is invaluable for the children they help.

I'm so thankful to the girls at Ashby Netball Club for their support, dedication, commitment and tenacity to take on this challenge once again! But its wasn't a difficult ask... I just said we are back for something bigger and better and the support just flooded in! With an organising team of 13 people there really is no stopping us!
